My Other Side
An adventure is an exciting or unusual experience; it may also be a bold, usually risky undertaking, with a calculated surprising outcome. Adventures may be activities with some potential for physical danger such as skydiving, mountain climbing or participating in extreme sports. The term also broadly refers to any enterprise that is potentially fraught with physical, financial or psychological risk, such as a business venture, a love affair, or other major life undertakings.
Adventurous experiences create psychological arousal, which can be interpreted as positive (e.g. flow) or negative (e.g. fear), for some people, adventure becomes a major pursuit in and of itself.
I’ve learned that risk can be managed. Not all of it, or it wouldn’t be an adventure.
Oftentimes we’re afraid of something because we haven’t been exposed to it very much. “Fear of the unknown” is a commonly used phrase to describe how people feel about something different. If you’re afraid of something because it’s a mystery, try exposing yourself to it in small doses until you gain a better understanding and your fear begins to dissipate.
“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.”
Adventurous activities lead us to gains in knowledge, such as those undertaken by explorers and pioneers. The same brings to the fore your creative traits, surviving skills and teaches you the effective use of available resources.
